Clashing guitars sweeping the surface of reality. Bass waves engulfing the surroundings like a cloud. Booming drums crash around the peaceful existence. The crescendos come in and out, weaving coherent tales that envelop your mind into another place. This is the common sound that could often be associated with Makeshift Clouds.

While on the surface, this project appears as a band complete with guitars, bass, drums and even synths – it is quite the contrary. Seemingly so, there’s an entire history of this “band” that happens long before the first sound waves ever even hit the public ear.

Years of time passed as solo artist Forekast would watch his dreams of being in a band fall away slowly. In 2018, he chose to pick up the guitar again after years away, and began playing every single day. He would reach out to countless friends and music acquaintances to try and make something happen in the post-rock realm with virtually no success.

Then one day he picked up the guitar, and began looping riffs, adding more on top of each loop, picking up the bass and dubbing some sub-sonic frequencies to the mix. Before he knew it, he was arranging a full song in his DAW. Within days, the untitled “Ambient Band” had been born, after 10+ years of being fueled by hollow dreams.

From there, then 28-year old Darren Ross (cka Forekast) would continue to write music over the course of the years to follow, before a pandemic would hit and throw a wrench in his plans permanently. Struggling to maintain a career, and dealing with a myriad of personal issues, the “Ambient Band” project would be put on hold indefinitely.

Finally 2022 would roll around, and some semblance of what could be normalcy returns to Darren’s life. But not before one last hurrah of darkness. Through this period of extreme turmoil and hardship, Darren realized the only way is up. He realized he spent an entire lifetime of writing music for everybody else but never for himself. Above all, he realized that “Makeshift Clouds” was his calling and was going to be his passion that kept him alive and breathing.
